Patrick Stewart will return to Chichester Festival's Minerva Theatre to appear in a new production of Edward Bond's 1973 play Bingo, due to premiere in April. Bingo, subtitled Scenes of Death and Money, is a fictional account of the retired William Shakespeare at his Warwickshire home in 1615 and 1616, suffering pangs of conscience in part because he signed a contract which protected his landholdings, on the condition that he would not interfere with an enclosure of common lands that would hurt the local peasant farmers.

In summer 2009, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen starred in a sold-out West End run in Samuel Beckett's tragicomedy Waiting for Godot, where two men, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly for the mysterious Godot to arrive. This production played at seven regional venues before beginning a limited West End run at Theatre Royal Haymarket from April 30 to August 9, 2009.

In later 2008, Patrick starred as Claudius and The Ghost in Hamlet for the RSC. David Tennant of Dr. Who co-starred. Hamlet ran at Stratford from July 24 to November 15, 2008. Hamlet recently played at London's Novello Theatre for RSC's winter season in a sold-out run from December 12, 2008 to January 10, 2009. Patrick won an Olivier Award for his role as Claudius.

In summer of 2007, Patrick Stewart starred in two productions at the Chichester Theatre Festival, MacBeth and Twelfth Night. Both plays utilized the same cast. Patrick continued his acclaimed role in Macbeth when the production transferred to the Gielgud theatre in the West End for a ten-week engagement in fall of 2007. MacBeth continued its tour in USA with a six-week sold-out run in early 2008 at Brooklyn Academy of Music. MacBeth then opened on Broadway on April 8, 2008 to rave reviews and ended its limited run on May 24, 2008.

In 2006-2007, Patrick Stewart returned to the Royal Shakespeare Company for the first time in 25 years. He starred in two productions as part of The Complete Works cycle: Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest which played at Stratford-upon-Avon, Ann Arbor Michigan, Newcastle, and London's West End.

Previous to RSC engagements, Patrick appeared in London's West End in December 2005 in his acclaimed one-man show, A Christmas Carol at the Albery Theatre. In early 2005, Patrick appeared in the David Mamet drama A Life in the Theatre, co-starring Joshua Jackson, also in the West End.

Patrick Stewart is an Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company, having been made an Associate Artist in 1967. With the RSC he has played such roles as King John, Shylock, Henry IV, Cassius, Titus Andronicus, Oberon, Leontes, Enobarbus, Touchstone and Launce. He has also starred in many contemporary works with the RSC, including premiere productions by Tom Stoppard, Edward Bond, Howard Barker and David Rudkin.

Now an internationally respected actor known for successfully bridging the gap between the theatrical world of the Shakespearean stage and contemporary film and television, Stewart continues to demonstrate his versatility with a wide range of projects.
